The Difference Between A Brand, Branding, & Brand Identity

As an entrepreneur, you’re fully aware that leaving a lasting impression on your customers’ minds is fundamental. You may gain your clients’ attention and loyalty by developing a recognizable, trustworthy, and consistent impression of your brand. Without such distinction, they may easily gravitate toward your competition.

Essentially, your company’s brand is a critical success aspect.

The first thing that most people think of when they think of a brand is a logo. While a logo is an important brand element and the most obvious visual association with a firm, there is much more to a brand than just a logo.

To establish a powerful brand, you must understand three fundamental principles:
  • Brand: The way individuals see your business.
  • Branding: The measures you do to develop a certain image of your business.
  • Brand Identity: The collection of physical brand aspects that together create one brand image.
Let’s delve deeper into these ideas.

What a Brand?

A brand is a collection of different thoughts, ideas, and emotions that individuals have about your firm that distinguishes it from competitors.

Simply put, your brand is what your customers think of you.

For example, there are numerous furniture stores and brands available, but one that stands out in most people’s eyes is IKEA. When people think of elegant furniture at an inexpensive price, the Swedish firm comes to mind first.

What is Branding?

Although your customers ultimately decide what your brand is, there are steps you can do as a business owner to put yourself in control.

This is known as branding: the active process of altering consumer impressions of your firm. All of the efforts you take to raise awareness and reputation for your organization and its products or services fall under the purview of branding. Your branding efforts may not always entirely translate into the thoughts of your customers, but the more purposeful and unified they are, the greater the likelihood of success.

What is Brand Identity?

The visual components of a brand that help consumers recognize and differentiate distinct  brands.

A brand’s identity is built on design.

Some visual components that contribute to a brand’s identity are:

  • Brand name
  • Tagline or slogan
  • Primary Logo & Variations
  • Typography
  • Colar pallet
  • Patterns or other graphic elements
  • Tone of Voice
These visual aspects, when combined with branding, form a brand image.
